Introducing: Heidi Darrington

Meet Heidi Darrington – new to Look East as project manager. Heidi fills the vital role of driving our customized project work to ensure clients are satisfied with outcomes that achieve their specific objectives. Heidi brings a burst of energy to the team, and here we learn more about her passion for working in food and ag.

Heidi, it’s no secret that you are proud to be from an Iowa farm family. Give us the full story.

Ahh, yes! One of my favorite stories to share! I was raised on the same family farm that my father was raised on. We are a small family farm in southwest Iowa raising a cow-calf herd and corn and soy row crops. My siblings and I spent our summers washing 4-H calves, picking sweet corn, canning said sweet corn and cutting thistles in the pastures. Today my older brother and father manage our farm, but I take every advantage to go home to visit. Sometimes it’s only a quick visit to the field to drop off dinner to my dad, but I’ll sneak in a combine ride whenever I’m home during harvest.

What projects have you started working on here at Look East?

Just a little bit of everything! I have been able to work on employee newsletters, community advisory meetings, strategy workshops, brand standard updates and so much more!

What do you like about working at Look East?

Every day is a learning opportunity! I joined Look East from a large agriculture corporation, so jumping into a new role and a new industry has been exciting. I have enjoyed getting to know the many clients we serve at Look East, and my experience working in animal agriculture and food processing sectors helps me to understand their perspectives.

In addition to being a project managing pro, you are also a busy volunteer. Tell us about that.

I love getting to spend my time outside of the office volunteering with Girls on the Run. Girls on the Run inspires girls of all abilities to strengthen their confidence and other important life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and physical activity. As a head coach for the program, I coordinate a 10-week season for my team ending with a celebratory 5k.
