Documenting ESG Activities

CLIENT: Phibro Animal Health

The Challenge

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitments are reshaping how food and agriculture companies approach business. A growing number of capital providers have announced that ESG performance and measurement, with an emphasis on climate action, should be the new standard for investing. In turn, food retailers, restaurants and other public-facing companies are making commitments that demonstrate sustainability and accountability throughout their supply chain. As stakeholders weigh decisions based on values and sustainable practices, companies need to effectively communicate their positions and demonstrate progress toward their goals.

Phibro Animal Health is a publicly traded company with a reputation for “doing what’s right.” The company wanted a platform to effectively share its ESG-related activities with customers, investors and employees.

The Results

Our Approach

Look East closely collaborated with Phibro’s ESG working group and project champions to create the company’s first Environmental, Social and Governance report in 2022 and followed it up with an annual update in 2023.

The documents showcase the company’s legacy, progress, and long-term ambitions around sustainability and ESG. The 2022 report was the first of its type created by Phibro and played a critical role in establishing metrics for baseline reporting.

Look East worked with staff across several departments to identify and compile extensive data points and materials. From there, Look East identified information gaps, particularly those assessed by various ESG rating systems. We interviewed Phibro leaders and developed new content that expressed the organization’s commitments in a thorough yet easy-to-understand style.

Once all the information was assembled, we developed graphics and formatted the copy, charts and visuals in an appealing design, to highlight key takeaways. We coordinated extensive reviews by Phibro leaders to ensure accuracy and support across the organization. The final form was prepared as an electronic document and interactive web page.

The Results

Phibro published its first ESG report For People Animals and the Planet in June 2022, demonstrating its emphasis on benchmarking and sharing progress against meaningful environmental and social outcomes. The 56-page document has been accessed by the company’s internal and external stakeholders and conveyed the narrative and metrics for baseline reporting. In 2023, Look East once again supported Phibro to create the second annual report: Health at the Heart that demonstrated continued commitment to ESG principles.
